Justice S Sunil Dutt Yadav made this observation in his interim order wherein several property tax demand notices issued against Gopalan Enterprises were stayed last Friday.
Stating that around Rs 2 crore is being paid towards property tax for the mall as per the High Court’s direction, Venkatesh said he has already paid the property tax for the year 2023-24 and also intimated the BBMP about it.

BBMP is all set to introduce an Integrated Voice Response System (IVRS), which will keep reminding the defautlers of their obligation to clear their dues. Munish Moudgil, special commissioner (revenue), confirmed to TOI that the Palike will introduce IVRS shortly to remind tax defaulters like banks that send out reminders to their customers.

The judge also noted that bye-law 7.2 provides for an exemption from the 50-square-metre-cap for sites pertaining to housing schemes for economically weaker sections (EWS), low-income groups (LIGs), slum clearance and improvement schemes, reconstruction in case of densely populated areas, and plots sub-divided due to family partitions.
Comparatively, between April 2022 and the first week of January 2023, the Palike had collected nearly Rs 2,749 crore, while the amount for the whole of the last fiscal stood at Rs 3,155 crore.
